PrintmakingThe Doors of Perception"There are things known and there are things unknown,
and in between are the doors of perception". Aldous Huxley Budapest series - Reduction Lino Cut
The Budapest Series was a project to create a 'Learn Printmaking' book that has interactive digital elements linked through mobile app use. I was lucky enough to travel to and explore the historic European city of Budapest in Hungary, making watercolour and drawings studies in my travel sketchbook. They were then taken to the studio and expanded on with a process called linocut reduction printmaking. The tradition style of carving and printing using linoleum plates and large victorian print presses with a modern take by printing multiple layers of different colour inks over Lino plates carved and reduced for each print layer. You can see this fascinating process below.
Highlands Series - Reduction Lino Cut
The Highlands Series has been created from a wild camping expedition around the Highlands of Scotland. Whilst exploring the incredible awe inspiring, rugged, rough yet some how mystical landscapes, I captured moments of interest with free hand sketching and my trusty camera. The place and its history is engrained in ever vast loch, thick towering Douglas Fir woodlands, hardy animals and sweeping mountains. Its magic elevated my sense of reality and refreshed my soul, breaking from a perpetual inner anxiety that many feel from our modern fast paced life. After soaking it all in on my return to the studio, endeavouring on a project of Linocut reduction printmaking. The qualities of the medium and the rugged, quick carving motions really managed to speak some of the language of the magical place that is the Highlands. A selection of Original and Giclee Prints are available in the print store.
Space and Colour Series - Reduction Lino Cut
The Space and Colour Series inspired by a sunrise hot air balloon flight over the city of Bristol in the UK. Part of the largest festival of its kind in Europe. Surrounded by other massive balloons crossing the landscape during sunrise was an experience that triggerd an explosion of printmaking back in the studio. Using the qualities of the medium, the energetic motions of carving and layering really lent itself to the special depth and dynamic lighting . A selection of Original and Giclee Prints are available, check out the print store above.

Twenty Four Hour Moving Life Series - Acrylic on Canvas
Setting myself a word of 'multi' as a start point and keeping a sketchbook in my coat pocket. Drawing out and recording multiple fleeting moments in a day on a page. The type of moments that slip through the fingers of consciousness. Thoughts and sights and conversations overheard. A distracting thought rippled by a passing car meandered into a phone call out of the blue or music in the distance. Chattering background noise of crowds of people or distant nattering of birdsong. Everyday a multiverse of micro events happen that we more often than not are too busy for. Take a minute every now and then. Stop and breath. These paintings are a cacophony of time segments, a still video of a day.
